Kathleen
Serafin started Specialized Insurance Assistance (SIA) over
twenty-five years ago out of the basement of her home. While
working as office manager for a private physician and consulting
for a medical equipment supply company and
institutional pharmacy, Kathy saw a needed service for the
elderly. That service was a friendly, knowledgeable person
to assist with the reimbursement maze the flowed between HMOs,
PPOs, Medicare, Medicaid, secondary insurers, and out of pocket
expenses to these individuals. SIA is the billing foundation
of Provider Plus. The provider arm of the two companies, Provider Plus,
was incorporated in 1992.
Kathy's
two sons joined her in the health care businesses, John in 1991
and Jeff in 1992. While mother and sons wear
many hats throughout the course of a business day, each Serafin
fills a primary role. Kathy's focus is on the medical claims
billing and collection. Jeff is responsible for home medical
equipment locations and John is responsible for sales and
marketing for extended care.
Provider
Plus opened its first handicapped accessible retail home medical
equipment showroom in 1994. The company became accredited in 1998. In 2002 Provider Plus moved
into its current corporate home consisting of a warehouse and a
newly built office building to house the ever-expanding business.
The warehouse and office building are greater than 22,000 sq. ft.
and function as a retail showroom, customer service and claims
processing center for all locations and as a distribution center
for all extended care customers. In October of 2004, Provider Plus opened a second
retail showroom in O'Fallon, MO followed by a third location in
Festus, MO in December of 2005. 2006
had Provider Plus moving outside the St. Louis metropolitan area
with a new showroom and distribution center in Poplar Bluff, MO.
In 2007 Provider Plus had two major expansions: a
move to expand the O'Fallon location in order to increase the
retail showroom and warehouse space, and the acquisition of a medical equipment company based in Washington, MO that
added another showroom in a geographic area that has a rapidly
expanding population. 2008 was another growth year with
Provider Plus crossing the Mississippi river and opening our first
Illinois showroom and warehouse in Belleville, IL. The
balance of 2008 saw Provider Plus open showrooms and distribution
centers in Cape Girardeau and Jefferson City, MO. 2009 was
Westward ho!... with a new location in Lenexa, KS and in 2010 we
clicked our heels and opened location number ten in the Missouri
boot heel town of Sikeston. The added locations have greatly
expanded the geographic reach and broadened the customer base of
the company in a very service oriented business. Please stop

Over
the past two decades Provider Plus has flourished and is
approaching 200 employees. Today, Provider Plus is growing faster than the
industry average and doing on a corporate level what Kathy started
for individuals. The companies service retail customers,
hospice organizations, hospitals, HMO's, commercial insurers, developmental centers, nursing homes,
pharmacies, and physicians. Without the tremendous
commitment of each member of the Provider Plus family, we
could not have achieved our
forefront position as the most knowledgeable and service driven
company in our field.
